The Ceremony is part of the “Elevated Tree in Vietnam” Scholarship Program initiated by Cathay United Bank. Each year since 2008, through Lawrence S. Ting Foundation, Cathay United Bank awards two rounds of scholarship awards every two semesters to primary school students in Quang Nam Province and Ho Chi Minh City. Scholarship recipients are studious students with good behavior who face financial difficulties and are nominated by Quang Nam and Ho Chi Minh City’s Association of Learning Promotion.

Attending the ceremony were representatives from Cathay United Bank (Chu Lai branch) and the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation. On behalf of local Government, there were representatives from the District Commission for Mass Organization; Commission for Propaganda; District People’s Committee; Department of Training and Education; Ho Chi Minh City Association for Learning Promotion; other Districts’ Association for Learning Promotion as well as the students awarded scholarships.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the leader of Binh Thanh District, Ms. Thai Thi Hong Nga, Vice Chairwoman of Binh Thanh District People’s Committee, expressed their appreciation to the benefactors for giving the best to students in Ho Chi Minh City with students from five different districts receiving scholarships this time. She believed that the students awarded scholarships will continue to promote their studious spirit and that these scholarships will be motivation for them to overcome difficult circumstances and continue going to school. She also hopes other donors will join hands with the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation and Cathay United Bank to expand this program in order to help create a brighter future for the children and help them give back to their communities.

After the ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of April 6th, 2018, Cathay United Bank – Chu Lai branch and the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation will collaborate with Quang Nam Association for Learning Promotion to organize another ceremony awarding 900 scholarships to primary school students in Quang Nam Province. The scholarship award ceremony is expected to take place at the town hall of Dien Ban town in Quang Nam Province.
