Children Art Exhibition “Beyond Barriers”
As part of the “Our Better Angels” project, the children art exhibition “Beyond Barriers” will take place from April 18 to 21, 2024. This event showcases impressive works by children with disabilities (CWDs) from special education schools across Vietnam. Through this exhibition, the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation aims to convey a profound message: “Having a physical disability does not mean lacking talent.”
An Interactive Experience
The exhibition is not just a display of art; it also serves as an interactive space that provides the community with an opportunity to better understand the lives of vulnerable children. Attendees will explore several special areas:
Storytelling Zone: Provide additional information and recount the journey of bringing the paintings of children with disabilities to the exhibition.
Reading Zone: 38 picture books from the “Wings of Angels” drawing competition will be showcased, honoring the artists and their works created for CWDs.
Art Display Area: More than 50 paintings by students from seven special education schools in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta will be exhibited. The students’ artwork has been curated by visual artist Ngô Đình Bảo Châu, who selected the most representative and impressive pieces for the exhibition.
Interactive Experience Zone
– Developmental Disabilities Experience: Using Montessori methods combined with electrical stimulation, this area will help participants understand the challenges faced by children with developmental disabilities in learning, perception, and cognition.
– Visual Impairment Experience: Guests will have the opportunity to use learning tools designed for visually impaired children, such as Braille books and typewriters, allowing them to feel the daily challenges these children encounter.
– Hearing Impairment Experience: With the help of sign language boards and soundproofing equipment, this area will provide insights into the communication barriers faced by individuals with hearing impairments.
Support Beyond Expectations
Over the course of four days, the exhibition attracted thousands of visitors. Additionally, it received encouragement, love, and support from the community.
“Beyond Barriers” is not just an art event; it is also an opportunity to raise awareness about various types of disabilities within the community. Each piece of art tells a story, reflecting the resilience and artistic talent of the children. Lawrence S. Ting Foundation hopes that through this exhibition, people will gain a more positive perspective on CWDs and help spread the message of empathy and sharing in society.
