Recognizing that there are still many shortcomings in accessing information and knowledge about caring for children with disabilities, Lawrence S Ting Foundation has organized disability assessments for children in provinces in the Mekong Delta.
The main objective of the activity is to determine the type and severity, and to test the children’s abilities and skill levels to make appropriate recommendations for intervention and support.
For caregivers, parents will be provided with guidance to better understand their child’s condition, thereby improving support at home. Schools and teachers will also be provided with information and knowledge to develop educational system.
Happiness in An Giang
The first place of the activity was on November 23 and 24, 2024 at An Giang School for Disabled Children (No. 97 Tran Hung Dao Street, My Thoi Ward, Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province).
The activity examined 139 children and parents, and conveyed necessary notes and information in supporting children. Seeing the smiles and warm moments on that day affirmed the great success.
The journey still very long
The journey to support children with disabilities in Vietnam to have the opportunity to access quality education, basic health services and integrate into the community still has many challenges.
Raising a child is a long process that requires a lot of patience and love. From the time the child’s disability is discovered until they grow up or even throughout life, parental support is extremely important. Spend quality time, listen, and understand, only then can the children develop.
