Outreach Service in Tan An Commune, Vinh Cuu District, Dong Nai Province
Tan An Commune is located at Vinh Cuu District, Dong Nai Province and it has population of more than 12,000 people who mainly work in farming. Most of them are from disadvantaged households and accessibility of basic quality healthcare services in this commune is still difficult. Therefore, in order to support the Tan An Commune Health Center in providing adequate essential health services for their community members, on April 18 2021, Lawrence S. Ting Foundation, in collaboration with a group of doctors from Ho Chi Minh City, organized an outreach service at Tan An Commune.
Through the collaboration with local authorities and commune health center workers, we were able to conduct general medical examinations and distributed free essential medicines to more than 180 people from disadvantaged households. At the same time, the doctor group provided health consultation to local people on how to prevent common community-acquired infections. They also conducted nutrition counseling for people with chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, etc. Additionally, we also gave gifts that are necessities to disadvantaged people.
Since 2010, we have served more than 2,200 disadvantaged people who live in remote areas of Vietnam. Our outreach services have helped the local people improve their health and contributed to solving challenges that the local authorities are facing.
