Paint Our Angels’ Wings Contest is an initiative organized by Lawrence S. Ting Foundation since 2022. The contest aims to enrich the source of educational materials for children with disabilities (CwDs) in Vietnam while promoting understanding for underprivileged children. Outstanding works will be showcased at the annual Children Art Exhibition and adapted into materials for the first digital library dedicated to CwDs in Vietnam.

Motivation and Mission

In the two competition seasons from 2022 to 2023, the Contest has:

– Attracted over 200 individuals and reached more than 1 million audiences.

– Received 185 high-quality submissions, many of which have been adapted into materials for the digital library.

This year, for Paint Our Angel’s Wings Contest 2024, over 150 valid works have been submitted, receiving strong support from the community, highlighting the concern for CwDs.

Activities Held

In addition to the creation and submission process for picture books, the contest organized three free workshops to address participants’ questions and enhance their skills in book creation with guidance from experts.

Workshop: The Guide To Write

On July 20th, the online workshop attracted over 130 participants, led by speaker Phạm Thị Hoài Anh. The activities during the workshop delved into how to develop characters and storylines for children’s picture books.

About Speaker Phạm Thị Hoài Anh

– Winner of the Samsung Kidstime competition in 2015.

– Journalist and author of the books “Mỗi ngày 15 phút yêu con”, “Trái tim của mẹ”.

– Content judge for Seasons 2 and 3 of Paint Our Angels’ Wings Contest.

Workshop: Where Wings Take Flight

On July 27th, an offline workshop at Vườn Trong Phố hosted over 50 attendees. Speakers discussed key aspects of picture book creation: Content, Art, and Message. Knowledge about children with disabilities was also deepened during this session.

The workshop featured contributions from four speakers:

– Author Phạm Thị Hoài Anh: Discussed the “Content” aspect of picture book creation.

– Journalist Huỳnh Tịnh Hoài Nhân: Shared insights on the “Message” of picture book.

– Author and painter Lương Linh: Talked about the “Art” in illustrating picture books.

– Lecturer Xuân Anh: Provided knowledge surrounding the topic of children with disabilities.

Workshop: Richer In Pictures

On August 3rd, the online workshop attracted over 140 participants, led by speaker Lương Linh. The workshop summarized the illustration process for picture books and addressed related questions.

General Information

– Contest Format: Hand-drawn or digital illustrations.

– Registration Period: July 5th to September 10th, 2024.

– Submission Period: September 1st – 11:59 PM on September 30th, 2024.

– Note: Participants who submit early (from September 10th to 17th) will receive a voting advantage.

– Themes: Open to interpretation (friendship, life lessons, family feelings, learning themes…), suitable for children under 10 years old.

– Characters: Children with disabilities.

Target Participants

The contest is open to residents of Vietnam, divided into three groups:

– Student group (ages 6-17)

– University group (ages 18-21)

– Working individuals (ages 22-35)

Note: Registering in the wrong age group will violate contest rules. Participants can join as individuals or in teams (maximum of 3 members).
