STEM education is an interdisciplinary approach to learning where rigorous academic concepts are coupled with real-world lessons as students apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in contexts that make connections between school, community, work, and global enterprise enabling the development of STEM literacy and with it the ability to compete in the new economy. (National Science Teaching Association – NSTA)

To provide practical scientific knowledge about life around us as well as inspire children’s passion for science, in February 2019, Lawrence S. Ting Foundation awards 51 STAR scholarships to attend a STEM education program for students from 8 to 17 years old free of charge. Among 51 STAR scholarship recipients, there are 28 from elementary schools, 18 from secondary schools; 5 from high schools. They will participate in STEM sessions organized by our foundation in cooperation with Saigon Scientists (a branch of Science from Scientist USA). The sessions are divided according to students’ school levels and organized every weekend in Ho Chi Minh City. Each course includes 12 sessions and will consist of 20 students and 02 instructors.

STEM is an abbreviation that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Through research, and combining these fields, students can apply science creatively in real life. Also, the STEM education program promotes and inspires students’ passion for science by guiding them to do experiments based on relevant scientific topics in the STEM field. Students can expand their imagination, creativity, and develop new skills, and techniques. STEM education does not aim to train students to become mathematicians, scientists, engineers, or technicians but to equip students with the knowledge to work and develop in today’s technological world.

As planned, in 2019, STEM program will focus on the following contents:
