Ms. Lam Thi Thu Han, Principal of Dong Thap School for Disabled Children also shared that from the school’s perspective, she feel very grateful to the Lawrence S.Ting Foundation.

“For the past 3 years, the school has been very fortunate to know the Lawrence S Ting Foundation and the Foundation has supported the school a lot, especially in terms of learning equipment, documents and digital library. The Foundation has also opened training classes for teachers, thereby helping improve their teaching quality and skills, while also supporting parents in intervention and child education issues.”

Challenges in teaching

Ms. Han also shared that the school’s biggest difficulty in raising children with developmental disabilities is that there are too many types, while the resources to teach children and improve professional skills for teachers are still limited. As for deaf children, there is a lack of equipment, especially hearing aids. With prices so high, many parents find it difficult to afford to support.

It can be seen that the lack of facilities, especially equipment, is a challenge in helping and improving the quality of education.

Digital Library for children with disability

Understanding the difficulties in accessing teaching materials for children with disabilities, Lawrence S Ting Foundation has coordinated with teachers from the Department of Special Education at National College of Education Ho Chi Minh city in order to create the first digital library for children with disabilities in Vietnam.

The library currently has more than 1,000+ documents including learning videos for children and articles on mental health for caregivers. This will be a very helpful tool for teachers and parents.
